Freeview is the UK’s largest TV platform, used in over 16 million homes and on 10 million main TV sets. Originally a broadcast-only service delivered by aerial, it now also offers Freeview Play - a hybrid broadcast and online TV service built into the majority of TVs sold in the UK. It is owned and supported by the UK’s leading public service broadcasters – the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.

My role: Website Manager

Key deliverables:

  • Oversee and manage website redesign and merger of Freeview (B2C) and Digital UK (B2B) websites in 2019.

  • Manage the invitation to tender (ITT) process, agency selection, budget management, project kick-off, stakeholder engagement, content audit, and site migration.

  • Project manage BAU website budget and backlog, managing relationships between external agencies and internal teams (Marcomms, CX, Tech, Product, Operations).

  • Deliver monthly website ‘show & tell’ of latest backlog releases, features, and performance, horizon scanning for new development and knowledge-sharing with internal teams across all digital channels.

  • Manage contracts, licenses and SLAs for all website suppliers, API integrations, and tools (digital agency, hosting, personalisation, cookie consent management, iSite ‘Where to buy’ product integration, Shorthand, GatherContent, Cloudflare, domain portfolio).

  • Benchmark website to ensure organisational KPIs on target - via Google Analytics/Search Console/Data Studio, Hotjar, website user surveys and FAQ feedback - using this data to prioritise bug fixes and new site features.

  • Personalisation campaigns: optimise website via rolling A/B and multivariate testing, growing ROI for paid digital campaigns via personalised landing pages and content based on behavioural insights.

  • Schedule monthly website content audits to ensure best practice SEO and monitor Core Web Vitals (URL structure, metadata descriptions, internal links, backlinks, page speed, onsite UX).

  • Lead on content production and workflow for Freeview year-round #HaveYouWatched TV genres, campaign landing pages, competitions, digital stories, and microsites.

  • Digital thought leadership: partner with Marcomms team to design and build immersive digital stories - A Year in Freeview, 700MHz: The Journey - and B2B event site Outside the Box to promote the future of free-to-view TV.

  • Deliver Drupal training, end-user documentation and ‘Skillz’ sessions for Content Design, Accessibility, UX Writing.

Achievements:

  • B2C and B2B websites merged to achieve significant cost-savings with shared suppliers and infrastructure (TV Guide powered by in-house metadata system, Drupal CMS, hosting, paid digital)

  • Website traffic significantly increased YoY post launch:

  • 71.99+% users

  • 74.32+% new users

  • 62.40% page views

  • 56.09+% sessions

  • Bounce rate down -20.31%

  • Average page load time reduced -22.58%
